***WARNING***
This is going to be the longest blog EVER. Okay, maybe not EVER, but it will be pretty long, since I actually have time to sit and do it. This is the first time in almost two weeks that I will be home for more than a couple of hours and not be sleeping. It's been a wild two weeks!
Okay, so this goes back a while:
July 25, 2003 - Rivercats vs. Iowa Cubs
I went to the game with Abby and Jenn. We had such a blast. We are so nutty together! So before the game, I got
Bobby Crosby to sign a photo I took of him in the Hawaiian jersey. LOL. He said you would have to get a pic of me in that jersey and I said hell yes, so it can never be forgotten, which he laughed at. We asked him about Jason Grabowski, and he said he was probably out for the season, since they only had 5 weeks left anyway. Told us he broke a bone in his leg :( Poor Jason, made me SOOOOO sad. That I might not get to see him again this year. The manager confirmed this later. Jenn is working on a little something for us to get a hold of Jason, so I hope it works out!
After the game, I was able to get Justin to sign my photo. It's been hard, cause every game I go to, he's pitching! But he did really well this game, and stuck around for the whole thing. As we were leaving the game, we were stopped at a light, and Abby says "ooh, there is a nice car coming up behind us." It was in the other lane. As is drives up next to us (and stops) Jenn and I both yell out BOBBY! We were shocked, it was
Bobby Crosby! He was stopped next to us. Abby's window was down, so I know he heard us. He was too far up for me to see anymore, but Jenn was doing her best impression of being sick in the front seat and laughing hysterically. Abby looked over at him, and he was looking at us smiling. It was so hilarious. We were all in shock.
July 26, 2003
So I get home about 11:30, then I have to pack to go to Anaheim. I arrive at Rebbeca's house about 12:30, and we leave about 12:45. Only took us 6 hours. She drove the WHOLE way. I think I slept at least 4 of the hours. We arrived at the hotel at 6:45 and they verified our reservation (too early to check in) and Rebbeca and Sandra bought shuttle tickets to Disneyland. We went to Mimi's for breakfast, and I called Edie to come pick me up. We went to her house, and perused bridal magazines. Great day, friends, beach, game, bbq and alcohol. What more can you want?? Maybe a CAMERA? Yeah, I'm a dumb ass, I left it in Rebbeca's car :(
My impression of Edison Field? Great. Parking is cheaper than Oakland. Outside you can tell you are actually GOING to a baseball game, which is really nice. I only sat in the top deck, so I can't say much for the view. Our seats were fine, upper deck is upper deck. About Angels fans, they remind me a lot of Giants fans. Not a whole lot of emotion. There were A's fan everywhere, and they didn't even say anything. A's cheers drowned them out. Rich Harden was AWESOME. I wasn't sure he was ready when they called him up, but his starts so far have changed my mind.
When I got back to the hotel that night, I went to check in. It was about 11:30, and I was SOOOO drained. Rebbeca and Sandra were still at Disneyland. When I got up to the counter, they asked me how I wanted to pay, and I told them I had already paid, when I made the reservation. They said no, they can't charge you until you arrive at the hotel and they scan your card. I said no, it had already appeared on my bill. They tried to make me feel hella stupid, saying they knew what they were doing, that they did it every day. It came down to either I pay, or I have no hotel. Since it was almost midnight, I didn't have a car or know my way around, I paid. We ended up getting two adjoining rooms, since that was all they had left. Not bad for $40.
Tried to get an early start the next day. Ended up arriving at the park about noon. Made our way down to the field only to find out that Harden and Mulder had already signed. BP soon ended, and Harden came over to sign again! I was able to get him to sign my pic with him. He seemed to remember me. He was really nice and chatted a bit.
It was so fricken hot. Great game though :) Took off for home right after the game, stopped for dinner and was home just after midnight. I drove about 2 hours, maybe a bit more on the way home.
All in all, GREAT trip. When I got home, I checked and I WAS charged twice for my hotel. I notified the company that I made the reservation through, and my money was refunded by Thursday. GREAT service.
July 29, 2003 - A's vs. Indians
Met Mariam at the game. She got Rich Hardens autograph. After that, I went over to the Indians side. Sat with Gabby right behind the Indians bullpen, and got some great pics of
Brian Anderson warming up. It had been a while since I'd seen him pitch in person. Mariam and my seats were in the second deck. One of the ushers let us sneak down to the first deck. After the fourth, we went and sat in the front row behind the bull pen with Gabby. Mariam had a good time, in spite of the A's winning ;)
July 30, 2003 - A's vs Indians
Went with Jenn and Jillian. I went over to the Indians side, to try to get
Brian to sign my photo. I didn't say anything to him, cause usually he only signs after BP. Well, he remember me, and came right over to me with me having to ask. He's such a sweetheart. His smile and those blue eyes. And he's so funny. Some kid was "Hey #31" and he says "Hey kid in the blue hat." He's got such a great personality. That's why I love him!
Got to see
CC Sabathia pitch for the first time. What a treat. He had a good game. Unfortunately it was against the A's :( I think Jenn and I annoyed the hell out of Jillian. We were laughing so hard, I was crying. I think we even annoyed the people in front of us. That's ok though, cause everyone was bugging me. Ever time Keith would poke his head out of the dugout (we were behind the pen) people would either all stand up or put up their hands. I was seriously getting pissed off. I had such a good time, besides the rude people.
I was going to take off Thursday, to go see Rich pitch. I'm SO glad I did not. From what I heard from Jenn, I would NOT have been happy. Some people's rudeness seems to be getting more and more pronounced. And I swear, I thought the game was for WATCHING. It's like we don't even exist some times. Oh well, we are more than capable of entertaining ourselves.
August 3, 2003 - PHOTO DAY...Oakland vs. NYY
We got to the game about 9:45 and went over to find Jenn and Jillian in line. They were in the very front, but we weren't too far back, so we just stayed at the end of the line. Cause cutting is bad children! They did save us a place on the field though. We were right underneath the NL scoreboard. We really got so screwed. None of the major players made it our way. We just missed out on Zito, Byrnes and Chavez. We got Ellis,
Piatt, Melhuse, Lilly, Menechino and Billy McMillion. Ellis, Lilly and
Piatt all commented on my shirt :) Ellis said he would tell Keith to hurry our way. And of course lots of coaches, Ron Washington (who told us Clarence Cockrel tackled him yesterday), Brad Fischer, Tony Francona, Bob Gueren (who took credit for Keith) My only goal was Keith Foulke, since I was wearing my OH SO COOL Foulke You shirt, but he didn't nearly make it our way. So with five minutes to spare, I grabbed Susana and we ran over to where Keith was. Right after we got there, the security person said only one more person. Well, I was lucky, and got to take one with him. He said my shirt was awesome. He really liked it :) Problem was, the camera was off, and Susana didn't know how to turn it on. Keith and I both though she had taken it. So he moved on down the row. I turned the camera on, and asked if we could take another one, since it didn't work. So he said of course, and came back over and took a good one! YAY! I was floating on air. I had achieved my goal :) That carried me though the whole game, since most of is was sucky. THANK GOD FOR MIGUEL! He saved us again. I have to say, I was worried, but I shouldn't have been. Mulder pitched a FABULOUS game, and it would have been a shame for him to lose. WHOOOO HOOOOOOO! Okay, that's the end! FINALLY!
Oh, here is my shirt:

I'm sure there are some things I left out, but you get the idea ;)
EDIT: Saw Valerie! She was hubby-less today. Good for her ;)
